Bingo’s The Word From 12AB

13th March 2017Mrs D Curtis

12AB led a BINGO session during both lunches on Monday 6th March to raise money for the Lent charities.  Special thanks to our very entertaining BINGO callers; Farai, Martial, Meghan and Shaan, to Sabrina and Shannon who kept a record of the numbers called so students could track them off the board and to Eve for introducing both sessions.  The rest of 12AB were involved in selling tickets, giving out pens and encouraging students to take part.  A fantastic team effort!

Well done to Harley Gibbons 7JC, our Bingo winner.

Ash Wednesday Liturgy

3rd March 2017Mrs D Ferris
ash-wednesday

On Wednesday 1st March the whole school came together to start our Lent journey with our Ash Wednesday Liturgy. At the beginning of the Liturgy, Mrs Hughes, Principal, spoke to the community about how important the day is, marking the start of a period of 40 days preparing for the joyful resurrection of Easter. She reminded us about the three things we can do during Lent, Praying, Fasting and Giving.

During the Liturgy Fr Mark blessed the palm leaf ash and marked out foreheads to remind us that we are created by God.

‘Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return’

In the book of Genesis, Adam was created from dust, this reminds and shows us of our human weaknesses and to receive the ashes with humility.

Chloe Attends Law Masterclass at Aston University

28th February 2017Mrs D Curtis
Chloe Shone, year 12, attended a Law Masterclass at Aston University in December 2016.
Chloe said, “It was a really interesting Masterclass to attend, it gave me an insight into what law is all about. It introduced Civil law and Criminal law but also focused a lot on sports doping and offences in Sports law which was really interesting.  We were introduced to the agencies linked with Sports law, and there were also a range of activities to do in order to make the Masterclass fun and enjoyable. It was really useful to attend and I will definitely consider applying again when the opportunities arise”.

Express & Star Editorial Rings St Edmund’s Success

10th February 2017Mrs D Curtis

Editorial from Express & Star Thursday 2 February 2017:-

CONTINUING UPWARD TREND OF SUCCESS FOR ST EDMUND’S

Following publication of the school league tables on 19 January, St Edmund’s Catholic Academy were very pleased to see that they are continuing their upward trend of success in Wolverhampton.

As an oversubscribed secondary academy, with a steadily growing Sixth Form, they feel they are on the threshold of outstanding.

Their vibrant Sixth Form, where 100 per cent of students last year were successful and 18 per cent of grades achieved were at A* / A, currently has 110 potential students signed up for admission in September 2017 and the number is still growing.

Acting Head of Sixth, Miss Roach commented ‘Our light and airy Sixth Form area, combined with choice of courses on offer, make St Edmund’s hard to resist.  We look forward to welcoming our new students later in the year’.

In years 7-11 the Academy is oversubscribed year on year with steadily improving results following the good Ofsted inspection in March 2016.

Mrs Hughes, Principal, added ‘Our continued upward trend is due to the sheer hard work of our students, staff and stakeholders.  Since we moved to our new location on Compton Park nearly four years ago, we continue to grow as a close community based on our strong Catholic ethos.  All our students are valued and nurtured to achieve their utmost potential’.

Please pay them a visit – they are sure you’ll like what you see!

Alton Castle Retreat

1st February 2017Mrs D Ferris

On the 23rd January, 35 students from Year 7 & 8 along with Mr McArdle, Mrs Badham and Mrs Ferris went on Retreat to Alton Castle in Staffordshire. They shared their time there with Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School in Birmingham and explored the theme ’Who am I?’

They took part in many activities from trekking, bike riding, archery, survival skills, and ventured around the adventure course. They took a tour of the grounds and learnt about the history of John Talbot and Augustus Pugin. The staff were very proud of all the students especially when they attended Mass when some of our student Alter Served, read and took part in the offertory. A good time was had by all and we have already booked for next year.
