We Will Rock You

15th March 2017Mrs D Curtis

Last week St Edmund’s Catholic Academy and S. Peter’s Collegiate School presented a wonderful production of We Will Rock You.  The students from both schools worked so hard and did phenomenally well performing to four sell-out audiences (even managing to stay awake in their lessons during the day!!)  Staff, students , parents and guests from each of the schools were able to experience a wonderful evening. Special thanks to all members of staff and students at both schools who were involved working front of house or backstage to make this a great success.

Library Assistants Meet Famous Children’s Author

13th March 2017Mrs D Curtis

On Tuesday 7th March the Library Assistants had the opportunity to meet British children’s author Katherine Woodfine, known for The Sinclair’s Mysteries, at Wolverhampton Grammar School.

Students were given the opportunity to purchase a book, signed by Katherine, and to find out what inspired her to write her book The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow and hear more about the characters within and Sinclair’s Department Store.

Students also took part in a workshop where the children had to solve the mystery of the stolen painting.

Rajbir Singh in 8KB said, “I would give this trip 10/10. The trip taught me about where authors get their inspiration to write their stories. This was an opportunity to meet the talented Katherine Woodfine. This trip has also got me interested in reading mystery novels. I thought the best part was when we got to solve the Mystery of the Missing Masterpiece.

Bethany Bloomfield in 8JI said, “I loved the trip and had a fantastic afternoon. We solved a mystery and got some interesting answers to our questions. The best day ever we should go again next year.

Katherine Woodfine can be seen pictured here with Sherroze Din, Emily Round, Sylwia Lagowska, Bethany Bloomfield, Haniya Deen, Molly Kerin, Paige Gostick, Stacey Pearce, Rajbir Singh, Evelyn Thorpe,  Neeta Mahey and Alexia Taylor.

Sixth Form Challenge Staff to Tug of War

13th March 2017Mrs D Curtis

On Tuesday 7th March, 12BC organised a charity Tug of War, between sixth formers and staff, to raise money for our Lenten charities.

First up was the sixth former boys’ vs the male staff, after a tense round, the male staff won.

Next up were the girls, and the female staff won, leaving the staff to compete against each other. However, a last minute change was made and EVERYONE took part, all the girls vs all the boys, and the girls won.

It was a great event that raised just over £51 for charity, with the great atmosphere, everyone had a great time listening to the music and watching the tug of war take place.

Thanks to all that took part.

Sixth form girls: Georgia Everiss, Niamh Nicholls, Chloe Shone, Cassie Goode, Sara wojciechowska, Angela Duka & Hannah Arfan.

Sixth form Boys: Callum Marandola, Kaz Khela, Cameron Uppal, Jaranz Plan, Haroon Imran, Pav Singh & Stefan Orjally.

Bingo’s The Word From 12AB

13th March 2017Mrs D Curtis

12AB led a BINGO session during both lunches on Monday 6th March to raise money for the Lent charities.  Special thanks to our very entertaining BINGO callers; Farai, Martial, Meghan and Shaan, to Sabrina and Shannon who kept a record of the numbers called so students could track them off the board and to Eve for introducing both sessions.  The rest of 12AB were involved in selling tickets, giving out pens and encouraging students to take part.  A fantastic team effort!

Well done to Harley Gibbons 7JC, our Bingo winner.

Ash Wednesday Liturgy

3rd March 2017Mrs D Ferris
ash-wednesday

On Wednesday 1st March the whole school came together to start our Lent journey with our Ash Wednesday Liturgy. At the beginning of the Liturgy, Mrs Hughes, Principal, spoke to the community about how important the day is, marking the start of a period of 40 days preparing for the joyful resurrection of Easter. She reminded us about the three things we can do during Lent, Praying, Fasting and Giving.

During the Liturgy Fr Mark blessed the palm leaf ash and marked out foreheads to remind us that we are created by God.

‘Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return’

In the book of Genesis, Adam was created from dust, this reminds and shows us of our human weaknesses and to receive the ashes with humility.

Chloe Attends Law Masterclass at Aston University

28th February 2017Mrs D Curtis
Chloe Shone, year 12, attended a Law Masterclass at Aston University in December 2016.
Chloe said, “It was a really interesting Masterclass to attend, it gave me an insight into what law is all about. It introduced Civil law and Criminal law but also focused a lot on sports doping and offences in Sports law which was really interesting.  We were introduced to the agencies linked with Sports law, and there were also a range of activities to do in order to make the Masterclass fun and enjoyable. It was really useful to attend and I will definitely consider applying again when the opportunities arise”.
