Year 11 into Year 12 Information Evening –Â 6.00 – 8.30 pm Thursday 20 October 2016
St Edmundâs Catholic Academy held its annual Presentation Evening last night with celebrity guest Kristian Thomas, England and Great Britain Olympic gymnast and former student of our Academy.
Principal, Mrs Maggie Hughes, expressed her delight that the Academy has achieved outstanding results at all levels this year, as was reflected in the certificates and awards presented to students.
Kristian Thomas presented over 150 students with shields and certificates for progress and achievement.
Mrs Hughes commented to the students: âBack in Sept 2011, when you started in Year 7, it was predicted that 54% of you would have 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths at the end of Year 11. This summer 60% of our Year 11 have attained this standard with nearly 70% achieving A* – C grades in at least 5 subjects. You exceeded our predictions and I am very proud of youâ. Â Every student in Y13 passed their exams. Â 100% pass rate again in 2016.
The evening ended with an inspirational speech from Kristian Thomas and a wonderful drinks reception to conclude the night.

Highest achieving students include Arnav Sharma with 8 A* and 2 A grades, Â Jakub Kolasa with 6 A*, 1 B Â and 2 C grades, Andrew Caron with 4 A *, 6 A and 1 B grade, Nathanael Haile with 3 A *, 6 A and 1 B grade, Magdalena Kot with 1 A* , 7 A and 2 B grades and Ellie McGrath with 2 A *, 5 A and 3 B grades.
Students have done particularly well this year in GCSE Maths, Biology, Chemistry, English, French, Geography, Italian, PE, Photography, Polish,  Physics,  Spanish  Use of Maths and BTEC Sports where 70%, or more, students achieved A* – C grades. Â
Principle Maggie Hughes said: âOnce again I am delighted to see our young people making such progress and achieving so well across a full range of subjectsâ said Principal, Maggie Hughes. Â âOur students and staff have worked collaboratively to ensure every student is valued and nurtured to achieve their utmost potential. Â The students, their families, teachers and support staff can be justly proud of Year 11 2016. Â We are thrilled that so many will be returning to join our Sixth Form in September.â
St Edmundâs is very pleased with its A Level Results this year: 100% of students were successful and 18% of the grades achieved were at A* / A.
Our top achieving student is Adam Sands, Head Boy, with a total point score of 220 and average point score of 55. He achieved A* grades in Mathematics and Economics, with A grades in History and Government & Politics. Â Adam is closely followed by Ayishat Mohammed who achieved A grades in Business and Health & Social Care and C in Psychology. Deputy Head Boy, Sledge Brewster has A in Mathematics and two B grades in Biology and Chemistry, and AS grade A in Geography. These three students have others âhot on their heelsâ with nearly 40% of students having at least one A* or A grade in their collection of results and average point scores of over 40 points each.
Principal Maggie Hughes said, âThe most pleasing aspect of this yearâs results is the wide range of subject success with a number of the highest achieving students gaining top grades in Religious Studies, History, Geography, Music, IT, Persian and Sport; as well as those represented by our highest achieving students.â
