Black Country Schools Games Netball Tournament

12th July 2016S Huynh

Earlier this term, Carys, Sophie, Bo, Janis, Rhiannon, Serena, Priya, Kajol and Lysia all took part in the Black Country Schools Games netball tournament representing Wolverhampton.

We are the first team from St Edmund’s to make it through to this stage for a few years. We competed against schools from Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

St Edmund’s played four matches, the first was against Queen Mary’s from Walsall and we drew 1-1. We then faced two tough matches against Wolverhampton Girls High and Hagley RC from Dudley, unfortunately we lost both matches.

Our last opponent was Wood Green from Sandwell, who we successfully beat.

Well done girls you all tried your hardest and played well as a team. Everyone enjoyed the day and we are proud of your achievements.

Maresha was the runner up, winning £100 prize and a lovely plaque with her name on.

Last night they attended the prestigious ceremony along with Mrs Hughes and their family at the Mayor’s Parlour, Wolverhampton.

A Wonderful Open Morning

28th June 2016S Huynh

On Saturday we held our Open Morning for prospective parents and their children. The sun shone bright for us and we really showcased why St Edmund’s is an Academy to be proud of.

The atmosphere was buzzing with families enjoying the St Edmund’s team spirit and a range of activities and talents being displayed. These included: wild science experiments, food tasting, a treasure hunt and ‘Wolfie’ made a special appearance .

The feedback was very positive with many parents commenting on how impressed they were with our excellent facilities. One parent said: “All the staff we spoke to were lovely and informative and welcoming and we have all come away with a very positive impression of your amazing school.”

Overall, the morning was enjoyed by all and we’d like to thank pupils and staff who contributed their time in making it a wonderful morning.

Year 8 trip to Towers

27th June 2016S Huynh

Earlier this term, 41 year 8 pupils and 5 staff departed for North Wales to spend five action packed days at Towers, the outdoor education centre. Over the course of the five days, pupils experienced orienteering, gorge walking, canoeing, kayaking, mountain walking, rock climbing, abseiling and zip wiring. A good time was had by all; here are some extracts from their diaries:

“Today, we went kayaking and Canadian Canoeing. It was a new experience for me as I had never done anything like that before. When we went canoeing we saw the beautiful lake dazzle with the light of the sun, it shone everywhere a glistened. The water was sharply cold and the mountains were as tall as ever, we saw Mount Siabod. Everything was surreal and I wished it never ended.”

“Today we did rock climbing and abseiling, I’ll admit at first I was scared but I got over it. It looked really far but it was amazing, the best ever.”

“The gorge was fun, however it was difficult. After lunch, we went on the via ferrata at Towers and used carabiners to climb the rock face. It was fun but scary because we were so high up.”

Euro 2016 – Students hold a charity cake sale

16th June 2016S Huynh

In support of the Euro 2016 and to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday, students at St Edmund’s Catholic Academy have been selling ‘football’ and ‘birthday’ cupcakes in aid of raising money for charity.

Quxah in Year 12 said: “As a Sixth Form we decided to do a fundraiser where we did a cake sale.

Half of the cupcakes were a celebration of the Queen’s 90th and the other half were for the Euros. It was great to see students getting excited for the game as well as remembering the Queen’s Birthday. This was for a good cause and all money raised will go to The Haven charity In Wolverhampton.”

Pupils and students are all getting into the football spirit here at St Edmund’s this afternoon by watching the match on the big screens!

Come on England!
